Dealing with the challenges of life is difficult enough for today’s youth without the additional stress and hurt brought on by bullying. Established in 2010, Stand for the Silent was started in Perkins, Oklahoma, by a group of students after an 11 year old boy, Ty Smalley, tragically took his own life after being bullied. His parents, Kirk and Laura, have made it their mission to make sure this never happens to another family. Kirk Smalley travels to schools across the country to tell his story of loss and heartbreak in hopes that students will stand up and stand together to make a change. Kirk uses this very personal and effective presentation to show students that what happened to his son and so many others across the country is preventable, and that all kids deserve to be shown that their life matters. We have joined his mission in establishing the Green Bay Area Stand for the Silent organization.
